THE HACKNEY WICK PARTNERSHIP

Two MESH Officers sit on the Board, Brian Clubb and Joyce Brown.
Minutes of the meeting held
Monday 12th January 2009 6.30 pm

Hackney Wick Community Association
ROSE ALBROW IN THE CHAIR

Matters Arising:

It was noted that the soil washing machine opposite Leabank Square has now been decommissioned. This, thankfully, led to a quiet Christmas period; a letter will be to CLM written in relation to this, thanking them.
The site is ‘live’ again however; machines are now being removed in anticipation of the next phase of development.

2012 Budget / International Broadcast Centre/Main Press Centre:

It was noted that the option being presented to the 2012 central government Funders group is that the IBC/MPC is all built at Hackney Wick; the Stratford City option now looks like a non-starter.
The 2nd helpful element is that the MPC is being proposed as permanent buildings and to BREAM sustainability excellence levels as previously desired. The IBC will be a more flexible building, with a 20 year life span.
The LDA have employed Grant Thornton to put together a business case for the site in legacy: this includes the previously outlined ELBA, LB Hackney and Renaisi work. This has now been accepted by the LDA consultants as a vision worth pursuing; other options will thus be explored if we can’t progress the vision and the commercial interest at this point. It is worth noting that the LDA are genuine and support our vision.

Thus the work to date has paid dividends BUT the battle is not yet won!

The key is that the business interest must be realised although perhaps even more of a key issue is transport and accessibility between Stratford regional and the site.

There is also an ongoing discussion with regards to Higher Education Facilities on this site. The message from Hackney is: commercial development should come first, related training and Research & Development second. The mushrooming to a large student university and campus must be avoided. There are also concerns as to the interim uses: Storage spaces for retail and home storage versus local artists and creatives utilising space.

Wick 2012 Community event: 22nd January:

The Wick Community event to be held on 22nd January at the Wick Community Centre was discussed, particularly in relation to how the Board could help to promote the event. It was outlined that the 2012 Sports Officer would be attendance, promoting how all members of the community can get involved in local sports activities.

Hackney Wick Masterplan Update:

This draft Wick Masterplan document will now be finalised in the week beginning 19th January and will be disseminated to core stakeholders accordingly. This will be a draft document, and as such LBH are seeking comments and feedback; this will need to be by Friday 30th Jan however. The masterplanners will make the necessary amendments thereafter and then the finalised document will go to cabinet around April.
May, June and July will be the key public consultation period with full adoption following in, September 2009.
This will allow the borough to bring forward tangible benefits, ensure links to the LMF plans and area. They are prolonged discussions to be had in relation to the usage of space in a broader context, the handball arena and blank development platforms.
Feedback from all is welcome in all formats; e-mail, phonecalls; visits also.

Legacy Masterplan Framework: Output C consultation:

It was outlined that February 9th is the planned start for public consultation of Output C: the chosen Option from the Legacy Masterplan Framework process.

CPZ: It was noted that LBH Parking team will be present for discussion at the Community Event on the 22nd.

Since this meeting was held the ODA have announced that the Media Centre will be built in Hackney, we will update you as soon as possible with the future plans with regards to the build.
